Once immigration and baggage collection are complete, the useful question is how to reach your actual hotel. Airport Express is worth considering for Central when predictable rail running time matters; A21 can be simpler for a Tsim Sha Tsui hotel genuinely close to a bus stop. Compare the whole journey from terminal to hotel entrance, rather than a 24-minute train ride with a bus fare.
Start with the hotel entrance and the time you can leave
This guide covers travel into the city after entering Hong Kong, not transit eligibility or remaining airside. Save the hotel's full name, entrance address and nearest bus stop or railway exit. Then estimate when you can actually leave the terminal. A flight's landing time cannot tell you whether you will catch the last train.
Not every Central hotel sits above Hong Kong Station, and Kowloon Station is not another name for Tsim Sha Tsui. Hillside, waterfront and Nathan Road hotels have different final approaches. With suitcases, a stroller or limited walking ability, check lifts, exits and road crossings rather than relying on a straight-line map distance.

HK01's airport transport promotion roundup is useful for discovering offers, but headline prices have route and date conditions. Its HKD 25 morning service concerns designated journeys from Kowloon or Tsing Yi to Hong Kong Station, not a general airport-to-city fare. Some group and interchange promotions also had closing dates. The standard operator information below was checked on 21 October 2026; check your actual product before paying.

Airport Express: station-to-station time is not hotel arrival time
MTR publishes approximate journeys of 24 minutes from Airport to Hong Kong Station, 22 minutes to Kowloon and 14 minutes to Tsing Yi. Walking to the platform, waiting, exiting and reaching your hotel are additional. Airport Express timetable
Hong Kong Station is a logical rail arrival point for Central, but you still need to choose between walking, a connecting MTR journey and a taxi. A Mid-Levels hotel can involve a substantial uphill approach. For Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon Station requires another connection. Some travellers instead change at Tsing Yi to the Tung Chung Line and at Lai King to the Tsuen Wan Line for Tsim Sha Tsui; that adds interchange walks. Check the MTR journey planner for the actual route and step-free requirements before choosing it.
| Adult single journey from Airport | Octopus / eligible contactless bank card / transit QR | Smart Ticket |
|---|---|---|
| Hong Kong Station | HKD 120 | HKD 130 |
| Kowloon Station | HKD 105 | HKD 115 |
| Tsing Yi Station | HKD 73 | HKD 80 |
These are fares for ages 12 and above, excluding later taxi charges. Children aged 3–11 have separate child fares, but contactless bank cards charge the adult Octopus fare; child fares do not apply. Work out a family's cost by both age and payment method instead of handing a bank card to a child and expecting a discount. MTR ticket types and fares

Free MTR connections and hotel shuttles have conditions
The offer covers only the MTR journey immediately before or after Airport Express. Light Rail, MTR Bus and the East Rail Line First Class are excluded.
The Airport Express connection offer requires the same valid Octopus, eligible contactless bank card or e-wallet transit QR code for the connecting MTR journey within one hour of arrival. There must be no more than nine Octopus transaction records between the rides. Buying a QR ticket does not automatically mean you have the same benefits as using an eligible e-wallet transit QR. This article describes travel from the airport; check the terms for your actual payment product. Free MTR connections
The Tsim Sha Tsui/East Tsim Sha Tsui interchange needs particular attention. Octopus users must transfer within 30 minutes of arrival at either station. Bank-card or QR users making that transfer have two separately charged journeys and are not eligible for the free connection there. Do not add an unnecessary detour merely to try to use an offer.
The current hotel shuttle page lists services operated by designated hotels at Hong Kong, Kowloon or Tsing Yi stations. Check whether your hotel participates, then ask it about eligibility, departures and charges. An old travel blog is not proof that every hotel has a frequent free connection. Waiting for a hotel shuttle is also part of the final journey.
Tsim Sha Tsui example: A21 works when the stop works
Citybus A21 towards Hung Hom Station serves Prince Edward, Mong Kok, Yau Ma Tei, Jordan and Tsim Sha Tsui. The airport lists departures from 05:30 to 24:00 and an adult full fare of HKD 34.6. It serves several districts rather than running nonstop to Tsim Sha Tsui; intermediate stops and road traffic affect total time. Cityflyer route network Airport bus times and fares
Find the nearest stop in the city-bound A21 stop list, then inspect the walk. Current stops include Kimberley Road, Cameron Road and Middle Road on Nathan Road, plus East Tsim Sha Tsui Station on Salisbury Road. They are separate stops, not one universal Tsim Sha Tsui drop-off. A hotel near Nathan Road may make one bus attractive; a hotel farther into Tsim Sha Tsui East or across several roads deserves a fresh comparison.
For two adults, standard A21 fares total HKD 69.2. Two adult Octopus Airport Express journeys to Kowloon total HKD 210, with any onward taxi additional. This compares two specific components, excludes group promotions and does not mean the bus suits every family. Balance the saving against waiting, carrying luggage and the final walk.
At the bus stop: check direction, pay and secure luggage
Follow the current Public Buses/Ground Transportation Centre signs from your terminal to the correct boarding area. Check the display, route and direction. An airport-bound terminal drop-off stop is not automatically a city-bound boarding stop; terminal facilities and roads can change, so follow current signs rather than an old photograph.
The airport explains that buses accept exact cash, Octopus or applicable electronic payment; no change is given for cash. A-route tickets are also sold at the Ground Transportation Centre counter. Check the equipment and operator conditions for your card, wallet and child concession instead of assuming every phone QR code works.
Cityflyer vehicles have luggage racks on the lower deck. Secure heavy bags and keep passports, phones and valuables with you. Do not leave cases on stairs, in exits or across the aisle. If going upstairs, settle luggage first; travellers assisting children or unable to climb stairs can consider available lower-deck seats, without assuming that every departure has space. Check your stop in advance and wait until the bus is stationary before retrieving luggage and getting off.

After midnight, N21 and NA21 are different routes
The current MTR timetable gives 00:48 as the last Airport Express departure from Airport towards the city, with the first at 05:54. That is not a suitable aircraft landing time: immigration, baggage collection, customs and the walk to the station come first. If close to the last train, investigate a night option before buying tickets and reorganising the whole family's bags.
Among the airport's overnight listings, N21 goes to Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry, with airport departures from 00:20 to 04:40 and a fare of HKD 23.8. NA21 is a Mong Kok and Nam Cheong circular service, listed from 00:50 to 04:50 at HKD 39.3. They serve different areas and stops. The shared number 21 does not make them interchangeable. First-to-last service windows do not mean a departure every minute; check Citybus for the next bus and stop list.
Use the current Citybus NA21 stop list towards Mong Kok/Nam Cheong: it includes Mong Kok Police Station, Nam Cheong Park and Nam Cheong Station, with the city-bound list ending at Hoi Lai Estate. Some network summaries still use the label Tai Kok Tsui. Check the actual alighting stop; neither that label nor a higher fare makes it a Tsim Sha Tsui route.

For a Tsim Sha Tsui hotel, inspect N21's actual stop and the late-night walk. NA21 costing more does not mean it continues farther south to your hotel. Night buses can involve waiting and indirect sections. If companions are tired or the final walk is unsuitable, compare a taxi or another option using the full destination and actual charge rather than forcing the daytime plan to work.
Compare every stage on the same checklist
Write down waiting, the main ride, any interchange and the final walk separately. Rail may be straightforward for a hotel close to Hong Kong Station; a single bus may be simpler beside an A21 stop. During severe weather, diversions or rail disruption, check current notices. Standard fares and hours are not a punctuality guarantee.
If arranging a separate cross-border journey, the airport transfer preparation checklist addresses that different task. For the arrival evening, reaching the hotel and putting down your bags is enough; do not overload the first day simply to save one connection.
Your pre-journey checklist
- Complete entry formalities and save the hotel's entrance and your realistic departure time.
- Compare the full journey; Kowloon Station is not the hotel door in Tsim Sha Tsui.
- Match Airport Express payment methods, child fares and connection conditions.
- Check the correct A21 direction and stop, prepare exact cash if needed and secure luggage.
- Distinguish N21 from NA21 after midnight and check the next departure and final walk.

Make it your journey
Choose the hotel entrance and arrival window first, then the railway or bus. Reducing the family's luggage handling and waiting is a better guide than picking a single fastest or cheapest number.
