The essentials

Muse Fest HK 2026 opens with the Fun at Museum Carnival on 31 October and 1 November around the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza. Main outdoor activities run 11:00–18:00, with free activities and workshops. This is a two-day opening carnival, not the same set of stalls operating throughout November. Crafts, films and performances have their own participation arrangements and times.

Mark the two carnival dates, not just “Muse Fest in November”

The Hong Kong Tourism Board’s festival listing covers the wider festival from 31 October to 30 November, across different venues and programmes with varying times and charges. This guide concerns the opening carnival; its dates and participation rules come from the organiser’s 2026 carnival page.

For a half-day weekend visit, make the carnival your main Tsim Sha Tsui activity, choose a craft or timed performance and build your arrival around it. If you arrive in mid-November, consult the wider festival programme instead of going to the piazza looking for a carnival that has finished.

Local coverage such as etnet’s event introduction is useful for discovering the nostalgic theme; use the organiser for date selection. A reference to the month-long festival does not mean the carnival happens every day. Details below were checked on 23 October 2026. All times are local to Hong Kong.

Choose a way into Hong Kong’s everyday culture

This year’s theme connects past and present Hong Kong stories through a neighbourhood tea stall, a traditional herbal shop and an old-fashioned coin-toss fairground. The three installations in Piazza Areas A and B run 11:00–18:00 on both days. They include a grid-style tea stall and pixel egg tart, the herbal-shop experience and the fortune-themed playground. They offer starting points for talking about everyday life rather than a checklist of photo stops to complete.

Families can begin with an object a child recognises: a pineapple bun, herbal-tea sign, qipao or old shop sign becomes the subject of a craft. Adults might focus on neighbourhood history, design or conservation demonstrations. Visitors unfamiliar with Cantonese can favour visual and hands-on activities and ask staff what communication is possible. Many workshops and storytelling sessions are listed in Cantonese; English teaching should not be assumed at every activity.

This is not a guide to every exhibition in the festival. Check a museum’s opening, admission and exhibition arrangements separately if you want to visit its galleries. Booking a different museum programme does not reserve a place in a carnival workshop.

Free workshops still have capacity limits

The Memory Unboxed series at the Cultural Centre Creative Market includes mahjong colouring, pineapple-bun clay and herbal-tea-sign keychains, fabric qipao ornaments and pawnshop-sign painting. The organiser says visitors may join when seats are available; materials are limited and participation is first come, first served. Choose something with space and enjoy completing it instead of planning to make every item.

The mooncake-box upcycling workshop needs closer timing. It runs at the Art Square in front of the Hong Kong Museum of Art from 11:00–18:00 on both days, with three 20-minute sessions per hour and eight participants per session. The instruction is to queue beside the booth ten minutes before the session begins, with places allocated first come, first served. Free participation describes the cost; it does not mean this article or a transport booking can reserve those eight places.

Some crafts use paint, which may stain clothing; anyone sensitive to paint should assess whether to join. Where scissors are used, children under twelve require a parent or adult alongside them. This is a scissors-supervision condition, not a ban on all under-twelves. A slim folder or small structured bag may help protect a finished piece, although the actual product and materials depend on what is provided on site.

Saturday has afternoon music and film; Sunday adds solar observation

The installations and several crafts operate on both days, but timed programmes differ. These selections are the ones most likely to affect a half-day visit; they are not a complete timetable. Expand the relevant day on the official page again before travelling.

Sunday 1 NovemberPixiu performance, 12:00–13:00 in Area C; solar observation, 12:30–14:30 in Salisbury GardenThese overlap, so choose priorities and follow the observation staff’s instructions
Sunday 1 NovemberNight at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, 11:15–13:00, Museum of Art basement Lecture Hall; English with Traditional Chinese subtitlesQueue for tickets from 10:30 in the ground-floor lobby, before the outdoor programme opens at 11:00

Both listed films have 150 places and require no advance enrolment. A person may collect at most four tickets, first come, first served until full. These are the published procedure and capacity, not live availability. A family of four should not interpret the four-ticket limit as a guarantee that four remain near the screening time.

On Sunday the morning film overlaps the first part of solar observation. Going to the garden afterwards is an option, but leaving the hall and walking there still takes time; do not treat it as a seamless connection. Follow the trained staff’s solar-viewing instructions, and never look directly at the Sun with bare eyes, ordinary binoculars or a phone’s magnified view.

Build a half-day around one priority and one alternative

For a craft-focused Saturday afternoon, first see which Memory Unboxed activity has a place, finish one piece and then visit the installations in Areas A and B. If music matters, organise the sequence around the fixed 13:45 or 15:15 programme. This is a suggested order, not a reserved itinerary. For Paddington, put 16:00 ticket collection into the plan as a separate task and be comfortable with the 18:20 finish.

For science and outdoor interests on Sunday, choose the midday Pixiu performance or solar observation from 12:30 as the priority, adding a craft afterwards. On both days, storytelling runs 15:30–16:30 in three 20-minute Cantonese sessions at the Art Square, which can suit families staying in that area. There is little benefit in criss-crossing the site simply to tick every box.

With younger children or older relatives, use the day’s signs to locate rest and toilet facilities, and be willing to switch to an installation or shorten the visit when queues are unsuitable. The mention of themed souvenirs is not a promise that every visitor receives one. Check materials, seats and collection arrangements with the staff.

Separate the piazza, the museum and the garden

The Cultural Centre’s location page gives the address as 10 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. Listed approaches include East Tsim Sha Tsui Station’s L6 subway or J3 exit, Tsim Sha Tsui Station Exit E, and the Star Ferry. These identify approaches to the venue, not a guarantee of step-free access. Wheelchair and pushchair users should check the appropriate current accessible station route separately.

The installations in Areas A and B, performances in C, Creative Market workshops, Museum of Art basement films and Salisbury Garden observation occupy different places. Use the on-site signs. The Clock Tower helps identify the Cultural Centre area, but this guide does not designate it as an authorised vehicle pickup point.

Visitors arriving on foot or by public transport with a small bag may not need a private vehicle. Airport arrivals with luggage, people with limited mobility or those continuing across a border can discuss a separate transfer. Distinguish the film’s start or finish from the moment the whole group reaches a permitted pickup location. An entrance to a public square is not automatically a place where a car may wait.

Apply this event’s weather-cancellation conditions

The organiser specifies cancellation if, at 08:00—three hours before the main programme begins—Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 3 or above, a Red or Black Rainstorm Warning, or government-announced Extreme Conditions are in force. The same conditions arising during the event trigger immediate cancellation of all activities. Ordinary rain is not the same threshold, but check the day’s notice rather than assuming the programme continues.

Check the organiser’s update and weather before setting out. A screening being indoors is not enough to conclude it is exempt from an event-wide cancellation. Transport bookings, accommodation and carnival participation are separate arrangements; contact the relevant provider promptly if your programme changes. Our typhoon and rainstorm travel guide explains wider journey adjustments.

Your pre-journey checklist

  • Opening carnival date confirmed as 31 October or 1 November, rather than the wider month-long festival.
  • One main experience selected, with workshop queuing or film-ticket collection checked separately.
  • Walking and rest allowed for, with Cantonese activities and children’s scissors supervision understood.
  • The day’s 08:00 weather conditions and current organiser notice checked.
